4 miles, 30 fences. The ultimate test of stamina and jumping. This is a handicap race with 40 runners. Do not bet the favorite to win outright; the variance is too high. Instead, utilize 'Each-Way' betting (betting on a horse to finish in the top 5 or 6). Look for horses that are 'sound jumpers',those that have never fallen in their career. Heavy weight is a burden over 4 miles; historically, horses carrying less than 11 stone have a better winning percentage. The 'Grey Horse' angle is a popular superstition, but statistically irrelevant.
Horse racing turns on distance, going, draw and weight carried, and each of those can matter more than reputation. Pace in the race itself decides whether front runners survive or closers get the finish they need. Trainer form, time since the last run and step up or down in class all shape a chance. Interest usually sits on each way prices, forecast and place markets, and matchups between two runners.
